Interested in Becoming a Guardian?

Becoming the guardian for a retired police or military dog is no small consideration. The vast majority of retired dogs stay with their working handlers in retirement. Their handlers understand their needs, are trained to safely handle them, and are sensitive to their unique triggers. There are many scenarios, however, where the dog is unable to stay with their working handler, that’s where the Ned’s Wish Rehabilitation and Rehoming Program steps in. We provide a safe space for our retirees in need to decompress, learn what retired life is all about, and find loving forever homes.

There is no one size fits all home for our retirees, as each comes with a unique set of personality traits, triggers and experiences all their own. The one thing our potential guardians should consider a universal, however, is that these dogs are not for the faint of heart. They will take everything you have and more: your heart, your patience, your perseverance and your soul. These are not “easy” dogs. You can count as fact they will present you with many challenges and problems that need to be managed appropriately. Our dogs require the kind of home that will work with them, where they are, and won’t give up on them when things get hard. The rewards for forging such a bond are unmeasurable!
