Tribute for Gunner

RCMP Police Service Dog

Regimental #1012

2014 – 2024

Years of Service: 2016 – 2022

Postings: New Brunswick

We’re very saddened to announce the recent passing of PSD Gunner, #1012 in Dieppe, New Brunswick.

Gunner served in New Brunswick under two handlers; Cpl. Mike Schaus from 2016 to 2018, and Cpl. Jonathan Moreau of the RCMP’s Southeast Police Dog Services from 2018 until Gunner’s retirement in 2022.

Gunner became famous after tracking not one, but two suspects involved in a home invasion in Nova Scotia. But Gunner’s true love was to work on the water. He must have been a dolphin in his past life, because he was exceptional at working on marine profile cases. Gunner also got very excited after donning his rappel harness, anticipating a great day of work ahead.

Lucky for Gunner, he was posted in Moncton, New Brunswick, and responded to all calls from the southeast of the province.

Gunner retired in Dieppe, New Brunswick, formerly known as Leger’s Corner, renamed Dieppe to commemorate the Canadian soldiers killed during the landing of Allied troops on August 19, 1942 in Dieppe, France.

In retirement, he lived with his handler, Cpl. Moreau and his family. Gunner was best friend before and after retirement to Cpl. Moreau’s children; Jayden, Ethan and Madysen.

You’ve done your duty, Gunner. Thank you for your service, Boy.
Rest in peace.
