Tribute for Brando

Ned’s Wish was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of retired PSD Brando of the Vancouver Police Department.

Brando served the people of Vancouver and the surrounding area as a patrol canine and explosive detection dog.

Brando was also an accomplished athlete. In 2016, he took a Bronze medal in the Canadian Police Trials, which are the police dog olympics. In these trials he performed tracking, building searches, area searches, obedience, agility, and criminal apprehension.

In 2018, he helped to secure TED Talks by conducting explosive sweeps during the week-long event. The same year, Brando captured a violent offender, who was suspected in a string of robberies ranging from Kamloops to Whistler. The suspect ran from the arrest location and hijacked a vehicle from a gas station. Brando was able to track him anyway and caught up in the middle of an intersection during rush hour and took down the suspect. We aren’t kidding! This is the stuff the movies are made of!

After retiring in 2020, Brando continued to pretend he was at work by barking at everyone who came to the house before greeting them with an exuberant sniff of their nether regions. Brando liked to follow around his 1.5 yr old sister, who he saw as a mobile treat dispenser.

You bravely helped to keep the good people of Vancouver safe for years and found your way into our hearts, Brando. Thank you for your service, Boy. You will be missed.

Condolences to Brando’s s former handler, Cst. Zach Fedora, and personnel who worked with Brando in Vancouver Police Department as we offer respectful acknowledgement of the passing of this dedicated PSD partner.

We at Ned’s Wish were honored to have supported this Retired Hero.
