Happy Holidays to OurNed’s Wish Families and Supporters

Wow! What an incredible year 2024 has been for Ned’s Wish! From the bottom of our hearts, we want to express our sincere gratitude to our amazing volunteers, including our dedicated Board of Directors led by our inspiring founder, Stacey. But most of all, we want to thank you – our truly incredible supporters. Your generosity and compassion are the driving force behind everything we do, and you make a real, tangible difference in the lives of our retired canine heroes across the country. We simply couldn’t do this without you.

Just in the past month (November 15th to December 15th, 2024), we’ve been able to provide over $22,000 in vital medical care, thanks to your unwavering support. This includes everything from life-saving surgeries and critical emergency ICU visits to providing much-needed relief for painful inner ear infections that require ongoing care. In 2024 alone, we’ve already provided over $150,722 in medical and rehome support for these deserving dogs. This is a testament to your incredible generosity. Since we started in 2019, your support has allowed us to give over $422,000 to help these heroes enjoy the retirement they’ve so rightfully earned. We are deeply grateful.

What kind of help do these amazing dogs need? While there are those cases requiring emergency life saving surgeries, often, it’s about managing everyday aches and pains like arthritis and providing relief from allergies. Whether it’s medication, special supplements, prescription food, or other treatments, we’re committed to helping them live their best lives after years of dedicated service to our communities and country. Imagine how good it must feel to finally be able to relax and enjoy retirement without constant discomfort! You make that possible.

We’ve also had some fantastic fundraising events this year, and we’re so grateful for the hard work of our amazing fundraising committee and everyone who participated:

The Edmonton Home and Garden Show: We had a blast at this event for the second year in a row, raising nearly $5,000! Thank you to everyone who stopped by and supported us. We’re already looking forward to being back in March 2025!
.
The 3rd annual Jim Galloway Golf Tournament This special tournament, held in loving memory of Cpl. Jim Galloway (who was tragically killed in 2004, while on duty as a dog handler in Spruce Grove, AB), raised over $18,000! We are eternally grateful to Mel, Lorena, Scott, and all the amazing volunteers who poured their hearts into making it such a success. Your dedication is truly inspiring. Stay tuned for details on the 2025 tournament!

Connecting with Handlers: We were honored to attend the Canadian Police Canine Association spring seminars in both Calgary and Edmonton, sharing information about Ned’s Wish with the dedicated men and women who work alongside these incredible dogs. Thank you for welcoming us.

This was the first year Ned’s Wish attended the Calgary Police Service Rodeo.  What a fantastic event! This was our first time at the rodeo, and we loved being part of the First Responders’ community. With the help of some truly amazing volunteers and five of our cherished retired K9 ambassadors, we raised over $3,500 in one day! We are so thankful for your enthusiasm and support.

The 4th Annual Ned’s Wish Heroes Run This year’s run held special meaning as we honored Bingo, a Toronto Police Service dog who tragically died in the line of duty in 2023. Thanks to the incredible efforts of our dedicated volunteers who organized in-person runs in Toronto, Edmonton, and Fort St. John, BC, plus all our amazing virtual runners, we raised over $37,000! A huge thank you to Lorena, Stacey D, & Mark H for coordinating most of the run this year. Your hard work is deeply appreciated. Get ready to lace up your running shoes next year – we’ll have QR codes and easy online sign-up through Race Roster!

The 2024 Calendar Sales were another huge success this year, thanks to our amazing Vice President Tatiana, who creates this amazing piece of art! We once again sold out in record time allowing us to raise over $30,000.00!!!

And now…….we have some Huge News for 2025 and a sneak preview of what is coming…….

We are introducing Axel’s House, Ned’s Wish Decompression and Rehoming Kennel in Alberta.

This is a huge undertaking, and we will be putting out a fundraising campaign to help with the costs in the New Year. So please stay tuned!  In the meantime, just a reminder of ways you can help:

We are always needing more support to keep Ned’s Wish relevant and effective.  These are the ways you can help

  • Donate to our fundraising campaigns when we have a specific dog in need
  • Monthly donations
  • Volunteering at an on-site event as an ambassador for Ned’s Wish
  • Volunteering to help with specific tasks behind the scenes
  • Spread the word about Ned’s Wish- tell your friends and family as well as coworkers or potential donors.   We are always looking for corporate sponsors.
