💙 Remembering and Celebrating the Life of PSD Hooch 💙
Ned’s Wish is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of 10-year-old PSD Hooch, who served as the perfect police dog alongside his handler and partner, Sgt. Bruce Ternan, for many years.
Born and raised at the RCMP’s Innisfail Kennels, Hooch began his career in St. Paul, Alberta, where he quickly proved himself as an exceptional tracker capable of following suspects across kilometres of the open prairies.
Hooch later transferred with Sgt. Ternan to the busy Lower Mainland of BC, where he served the remainder of his career. He deployed with the RCMP Lower Mainland Emergency Response Team and played a key role in many high-risk calls, including the apprehension of two-armed robbery suspects who had been victimizing multiple establishments across the lower mainland. When not chasing down offenders, Hooch put his skills to work in narcotics detection.
Hooch was described as naturally friendly but able to flip the switch when it was time to work. For a big dog he was extremely agile, fast and he loved the water. Although he still had tons of energy and barely any greys on his muzzle, he embraced retirement with enthusiasm by moving inside, onto the bed and had a chew toy always in his mouth or nearby.
His passing was sudden and unexpected making it even harder to believe he’s gone. Hooch joins his brother Aztec who has been waiting.
Ned’s Wish extends our deepest condolences to Bruce. Hooch was a remarkable partner, a loyal companion, and a hero who served with courage and devotion. Together, Bruce and Hooch made a formidable team.
We are so sorry for your loss, Bruce, and deeply grateful for the service you both provided to the communities you protected. 💙🐾
