Cal is a pure bred German Shepherd and he was born at the Police Service Dog Training Centre in Innisfail, Alta. on May 29, 2010.
Cal worked for the RCMP with his partner Cpl. Colin Hack and was posted to Comox Valley, BC from 2012 to 2017. During his time in BC he located a missing person’s remains on Hanson Island which led to a murder charge in 2013. He also used his incredible skill to track and locate many suspects from home invasions and assaults in Comox Valley. He has excellent work ethic which he brought to every deployment. After his time in BC, Cal and Cpl. Hack were posted to Grande Prairie, Alta. from 2017 until his retirement in August 2018.
Cal lives with his partner, Cpl. Hack, and he still loves getting in the vehicle and listening to the police radio. He enjoys hanging out in the backyard and chewing his favourite Kong. He also has a sense of humour and shows his teeth if you ask him for a high five.
Despite his happiness in retirement, Cal has developed an allergy and takes medication to keep the itchiness and scratching from being unbearable.
