Cruiser, Regimental #005

Welcome to the Ned’s Wish pack, Explosive Detection Dog Cruiser

Cruiser, a 14-year-old gentleman, dedicated six highly distinguished years (2013-2019) to patrolling the sprawling Metro Vancouver Transit System, a career that spanned everything from 63 Skytrain stations to a couple of boats and 1,800 square kilometers of bus routes. As the trusted partner of Constable Scott Hogg, Cruiser took his job of clearing bomb threats and suspicious packages very seriously. If there was a briefcase slightly too close to a trash can, Cruiser was on the scene, ready to sniff out trouble. He was known for his exceptional work ethic, keen instincts, and steadfast loyalty—qualities that made him an effective working dog and an absolute favourite at the department.

Since retiring in 2019, Cruiser has discovered that the best way to detect explosives is to stay very still and see if a treat is heading in his direction. Despite his official career ending, he remains the lead constable of the house, enjoying life with his person, Scott. Cruiser is still “going strong” on his walks, even if he needs monthly joint injections to deal with the minor inconvenience of arthritis. His greatest daily challenge is deciding whether to nap now or nap later, a philosophical dilemma he approaches with the same focus he once applied to protecting commuters. Now that he knows he’s officially part of Ned’s Wish, he is already planning the “Pack Social Event”, and he is very happy to join a group that understands that even the most hardened explosive detection expert deserves a comfy couch.

We are so honoured to officially welcome this brave and dependable retiree to Ned’s Wish!
