Let’s give a warm welcome to Frankie, who is joining his half-sister Stella at Ned’s Wish!
Born in 2019 in Millbrook, Ontario, Frankie’s high drive and exuberant nature led him to the big city, where he had a distinguished career serving with the Toronto Police Service. Frankie trained as a cadaver detection dog and took part in numerous missing-person and homicide cold-case searches in Toronto and throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Not deterred by being one of the smallest dogs in the unit—or by having floppy ears—Frankie was known as the “German Shepherd in a Springer body.” He challenged all his pointy-eared colleagues to fight, despite being an otherwise very friendly dog.
During one of his final searches before retirement, Frankie was called out to assist in locating a missing person. Suspecting the individual may have met an untimely end, and after officers had exhausted their own searches and leads, Frankie was deployed to re-examine an area previously cleared. Frankie quickly got to work and helped officers locate the missing person’s body in a spot where it might otherwise have remained undetected for a very long time, leading to an arrest.
In retirement, Frankie expresses his excitement for trips to the park by “singing” at full volume—sounding remarkably like Chewbacca from Star Wars. Thanks to a fractured tooth sustained during his working years, Frankie also sports a gold crown, giving him some serious street cred. It doesn’t cause him any trouble now, but his family plans to keep a close eye on it.
Thank you for your service, Frankie, and enjoy your well-earned retirement. We’re so glad to have you with us at Ned’s Wish!
