Born December 18, 2014, at PDSTC in Innisfail, Alberta, GRIFF began his RCMP career in 2017 and quickly built a reputation as a driven, fearless, and dependable Police Service Dog. His journey took him from Kamloops, British Columbia, to the Lower Mainland District, and later across the country to Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, where he proudly served alongside Cpl. D. Lewis and Cpl. I. Sneddon.
GRIFF was known for his unmatched enthusiasm—often sprinting full speed from his kennel to the dog truck, ready for whatever challenge lay ahead. Whether deployed with ERT, assisting AvSAR operations, or even taking to the skies in helicopters, GRIFF thrived in high-demand roles where courage and precision mattered most.
Throughout his career, GRIFF was responsible for numerous successful tracks and arrests. In one notable incident, he pursued a suspect through dense brush and shoreline terrain, ultimately locating and apprehending the individual hidden beneath a fallen tree. In another, his quick action prevented an armed suspect from accessing a firearm during an attempted escape, ensuring the safety of members and the public.
GRIFF’s skill extended beyond tracking and apprehension. His keen nose played a critical role in locating a concealed firearm on a rural property—evidence that later contributed to criminal charges and brought reassurance to a family in distress.
Perhaps most impactful was his work during the devastating Nova Scotia floods of July 2023. In extremely challenging conditions, GRIFF worked tirelessly alongside fellow K9s, handlers, and search teams to help locate missing individuals, bringing closure to grieving families.
After nine years of dedicated service, GRIFF retired in July 2025. Today, he enjoys a well-earned life exploring Nova Scotia’s shorelines and forests with his family—still ever the adventurer, though now searching for treasures instead of suspects.
At home, GRIFF shows a softer side—lounging belly-up in the sun without a care in the world, or keeping a watchful eye on his tiny human’s prized pink soccer ball.
A loyal partner, a relentless worker, and a true hero—GRIFF’s legacy of service will not be forgotten.
