Hawk, Regimental #1042

Hawk is a German Shepherd born in 2015 at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, AB. Over an eight-year career with the RCMP, Hawk served in Nanaimo, BC and Regina, SK as a general duty and explosive detection dog.

Known for his exceptional drive and athleticism, Hawk assisted with locating missing people, apprehending fugitives, VIP and Major Event support, and searching for vital evidence; he supported specialized units including ERT, SAR, GD, MCU, EDU, and GIS.

Hawk’s social and stable temperament made him a favourite at community events, helping build positive relations with the public in the communities he served.

Among his many achievements, Hawk was known to track fugitives across Saskatchewan in extreme weather conditions – from +30 to -30! Hawk was committed to duty even well into the age when most dogs would be long retired – he was still chasing bad guys up to age 10 (over 70 in human years!) including completing a remarkable 5 km track from a stolen vehicle.

His handlers, Cpl. Dean Muir and Sgt. Dave McClarty, recall his persistence and friendly antics. An amiable but insistent retiree, he has a reputation for demanding pets. If you stop petting, you might be in for a spilled drink and stained attire!

Now retired in SK, Hawk enjoys a well-earned rest, facing only the expected age-related arthritis common among working dogs.

Welcome to Ned’s Wish, Hawk!
