Jedi, Regimental #1068

Born on September 3, 2016, in Innisfail, Alberta, Jedi began his journey at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre before being raised in Saskatchewan. By August 2018, he was fully trained and operational—a full-profile Police Service Dog ready to serve.

Jedi’s career took him across multiple divisions, beginning in Saskatchewan before transferring to E Division in British Columbia, where he became part of the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Section. Throughout his service, Jedi assisted countless RCMP detachments, specialized units, and partner agencies, playing a critical role in investigations involving suspect apprehensions, evidence recovery, and missing persons.

In addition to his patrol work, Jedi was a highly skilled explosive detection dog. His abilities brought him to the national stage, where he conducted security sweeps for world leaders including Canadian officials, U.S. Presidents Barack Obamaand Donald Trump, as well as dignitaries attending the G7 and even the Pope during his visit to Edmonton.

Jedi’s true passion, however, was his work alongside Emergency Response Teams. As one of the first full-time ERT dogs assigned to the Lower Mainland team, he was trusted on high-risk operations where precision, courage, and reliability were non-negotiable. He also became one of the few ERT Marine Operations dogs—handling both land and water deployments with enthusiasm (and leaving behind a few memorable “moments” on the boats).

In 2024, Jedi returned to F Division in Saskatchewan, finishing his career in the Regina area. Even in his final years of service, he continued to perform at an elite level. His last apprehension involved locating a suspect who had shot an RCMP member—a testament to his unwavering drive and dedication to protecting others.

Across seven years of service, Jedi proved himself time and time again in challenging conditions—tracking suspects through busy urban environments, locating offenders hidden in trees, and even uncovering individuals concealed beneath homes. His determination, intelligence, and instinct made him an exceptional partner and a true asset to every team he worked alongside.

Handled by Cpl. Paul Carey, Jedi built a bond rooted in trust—one that defined his success in the field and his legacy in retirement.

Now retired, Jedi enjoys a slower pace of life, though his personality remains as vibrant as ever. Known for spinning like a “Tasmanian Devil” when excited, chasing his tail well into his senior years, and choosing the shower as his favorite sleeping spot, Jedi continues to bring joy to those around him.

Despite overcoming serious health challenges, including surviving stomach torsion, Jedi’s resilience remains just as strong as it was during his service years.

From high-risk deployments to protecting world leaders, Jedi’s career reflects the very best of what it means to be a Police Service Dog. His legacy is one of loyalty, courage, and unwavering dedication. 🐾
