Jimbo, Regimental #1073

Ned’s Wish is happy to welcome PSD Jimbo to its ranks. PSD Jimbo’s favorite activity in his retirement is to find the biggest tree and drag it along on his walks through the woods.

PSD Jimbo comes from a solid pedigree of RCMP’s canine family, he is the son of PSD Ero and PSD Fyre. Appropriately named, Jimbo inherited the good looks and keen nose of his father, and the endless energy and perseverance of his mother. When he was a puppy, he was sent to Nova Scotia, where he grew up with a human imprinter and trainer. But in 2018, Jimbo was then matched with his handler Cst.Phil Presseau, at which point they completed basic training through the summer. The team started working with Codiac Regional PDS in Moncton, New Brunswick. Jimbo served the community of Codiac Regional from 2018 to 2024, where he retired as a healthy dog at the age of 8.

One July summer night in 2019, a call came in for Codiac, stating that a 15-year-old boy, who was home alone for the weekend, heard someone in the house in the middle of the night. The boy hid under his bed and called 911. The police set up a containment on the house and saw a person wearing a face mask holding a safe inside the house. When the masked person saw the officers, he dropped the safe and ran deeper into the house to hide. After human officers searched the house, they could not find the burglar inside, concluding that he may have escaped. Like Batman and Robin, PDS Jimbo and his handler were called to help, as it was believed the burglar was now at large on foot. PSD Jimbo was deployed to track the fugitive, but surprisingly Jimbo could not sniff out any fresh tracks around the house. Trusting PSD Jimbo and his keen sense of smell, his handler proceeded to search the house. Once inside the house, PSD Jimbo immediately made his way to the basement into a small dark storage room and within seconds located the burglar hiding in a small dark space. The thief was arrested without incident and the 15-year-old boy was safe, thanks to PSD Jimbo.

A dog’s nose always knows!!!

Jimbo also helped out a neighboring detachment, just like Batman and Robin would. Once during a frigid New Brunswick winter day, Jimbo and his handle, tracked a suspect for 7 km through icy waters, and in 4-feet-deep snow. The team caught up with the suspect and took him into custody. PSD Jimbo suffered some cuts on his paws from breaking through the ice, but he recovered well and returned to duty after some well-deserved rest.

Welcome to your retirement Jimbo, it’s time to rest your paws. You are well loved and respected for your bravery and valor!
