Kyber, Regimental #1080

After eight dedicated years of service with the RCMP in explosives detection, Kyber has officially hung up her working vest and retired her sniffer, heading into a well-earned retirement.

Named after the legendary Kyber crystal from Star Wars, this German Shepherd Dog truly lived up to her powerful name. Trained in explosives detection, Kyber was attached to the Explosive Disposal Unit in the busy hub of Ottawa.

She proudly served her nation on numerous VIP duties, ensuring the safety of Prime Ministers, U.S. President Joe Biden, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine, and even Pope Francis, to name a few. From preventative sweeps to high-security missions, her nose was always on duty — and always one step ahead of everyone else. Kyber earned a reputation as a hardworking and meticulous search dog, loved by everyone who had the pleasure of working with her.

A huge hockey fan, she even got to hang out with the Stanley Cup! She also has a special love for Christmas time, when her playful spirit shone even brighter.

Affectionately nicknamed “Kyber Roo,” she has a charming habit of standing on her hind legs when she gets excited for her well-deserved treats. Now retired, Kyber joins her former unit mates Tank, Ivy, and Yvette at Ned’s Wish, trading in long workdays for endless games of fetch, swimming sessions, and fiercely competitive tug-of-war battles.

After years of protecting the nation, this brilliant GSD has earned her rest — though she still insists on sweeping the yard before playtime!

Welcome to the pack, Kyber!
