Everyone at Ned’s Wish is excited to welcome PSD Lex to the next—and hopefully much more relaxing—chapter of his life! 🎉🐾
Lex began his Police Service Dog career in New Brunswick, where he was imprinted in Moncton by a member who would eventually become a handler in B.C. At just one year old, Lex was partnered with Cpl. Joe St-Amand, and together they began their training in Bathurst. After travelling to Alberta for additional training at 14 months old, Lex completed his training by 16 months and was ready to get to work!
For the next seven years, Lex served in Bathurst and throughout New Brunswick, working alongside his handler, the Emergency Response Team, and other agencies across the province. His specialty was narcotics detection, but Lex proved time and time again that his skills went far beyond finding drugs.
Lex was called upon to help locate murder suspects in three separate homicide investigations in northeastern New Brunswick and the Miramichi area. In all three cases, Lex successfully located the suspects, who were arrested and ultimately convicted of murder.
On another occasion, Lex tracked back to locate a hidden murder weapon. Once he found it, he lifted the cover with his nose to show his handler exactly what he was alerting to. Pretty impressive work for a dog who clearly believed that “leave no evidence behind” was just a suggestion! 🐕🔎
After seven years of dedicated service, Lex officially retired on July 27, 2026, and has now moved to his forever home in Halifax. And there’s a particularly special connection to his new home—it’s the same home where Cpl. St-Amand’s last K9 partner, Dark, enjoyed retirement. ❤️
So, what does a highly accomplished Police Service Dog do when he finally gets to retire?
Apparently… he watches baseball! ⚾😂
Lex discovered on his very first night of retirement that he is quite happy to kick back, put his paws up and enjoy a game on TV. After seven years of chasing bad guys, we think he has more than earned the right to become a professional couch potato!
Welcome to the Ned’s Wish family, Lex! 💙
Your working days may be behind you, but we know your greatest adventure is just beginning. We hope retirement brings you endless naps, plenty of treats, lots of baseball, and all the love you deserve. 🐾⚾❤️
