Magi, Regimental #1146

It is with a mix of slobbery kisses and happy tears that we announce the official retirement of a true RCMP legend, Police Service Dog Magi (Regimental #1146). Born on August 13, 2019, Magi came into this world with a twinkle in her eye and a destiny to serve… mostly for treats, but also for justice.

From her early days, lovingly guided by the discerning eyes (and treat dispensers) of Dan Sanerov and Ewen Coles, Magi displayed a rare blend of drive, discipline, and an uncanny ability to know exactly when a belly rub was needed. She wasn’t just good at her job; she was paws-itively brilliant, excelling in her duties while simultaneously charming the pants off everyone she met (metaphorically, of course – she was a professional!). Her calm, focused temperament made her a favorite, not only among her handlers but across multiple RCMP support sections. We hear she was particularly skilled at “lending a helping paw” with spilled coffee and dropped sandwiches.

Partnered with the exceptionally patient Brandon Hrdlicka, Magi spent four dedicated years serving the great province of Alberta. Throughout her career, she played a vital support role in special operations and general duty deployments. Her presence brought both confidence and comfort, primarily because everyone knew if things went south, Magi would be the first to demand a nap. She was a loyal and steadfast partner in the field, though sources confirm her “hard, mean exterior” was mostly a carefully cultivated myth, designed to deter squirrels and mail carriers. Once the uniform came off, she was a champion cuddler, demanding proximity and affection with the intensity of a thousand suns.

Sadly, due to a rogue insulinoma on her pancreas (a condition we’re pretty sure developed from all those “tax-deductible” training treats), Magi is retiring earlier than expected. While her working days are over, her spirit remains as strong as ever, particularly when it comes to locating the softest blanket or the most available lap.

Magi now enjoys a well-deserved retirement filled with endless cuddles, the softest beds, and absolutely zero alarm clocks. She’s currently perfecting her napping techniques and accepting applications for professional ear scratchers. We’re pretty sure her greatest mission now is to prove that “couch potato” is a legitimate full-time career.

Thank you, Magi, for your loyal service, your unwavering dedication, and for proving that even the toughest police dogs are just big, goofy cuddle monsters at heart. Enjoy your retirement; you’ve earned every single slobbery minute of it!
