Morgan, Regimental #0158

Ned’s Wish would like to give a howling welcome to PSD Morgan!

After eight years of dedicated service with the Halifax Regional Police, PSD Morgan is officially joining the Ned’s Wish pack in retirement.

Born in Slovakia in 2016, Morgan travelled to Canada’s East Coast to begin his policing career. Over the next eight years, he proudly served as a dual-purpose police service dog, specializing in patrol response and explosive detection. Morgan primarily worked throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality in Nova Scotia and also provided coverage at the Halifax International Airport.

Morgan was known not only for his skill but also for his enthusiasm for the job. He even shared his talents with the public during demonstrations at the Nova Scotia International Tattoo, where he showcased his training and entertained thousands of attendees.

Throughout his career, Morgan was involved in several intense and high-risk incidents. In one particularly dangerous situation, he responded to the stabbing of a police officer during an intimate partner violence call. Another police service dog who initially attended the call had also been stabbed by the same suspect, who then fled the scene. Morgan deployed alongside the Emergency Response Team and successfully tracked the suspect deep into a wooded area, where the individual was safely apprehended. After the long and demanding track, Morgan spent the evening recovering from heat exhaustion but was thankfully okay.

In another incident, Morgan was working patrol when a robbery turned into a vehicle pursuit. After the suspect vehicle crashed, two individuals fled on foot. Morgan deployed from the front window of his police vehicle and quickly apprehended an armed suspect fleeing the scene. After turning the first suspect over to officers, Morgan continued tracking and located a firearm and other evidence along the route. The track led more than four kilometres from the crash site, where Morgan ultimately located the second suspect hiding inside a residential deck box.

Morgan was named in honour of a Halifax Regional Police trainer and handler who sadly passed away from cancer. During his General Patrol Dog Course, Morgan completed his final Level 3 track in an urban subdivision. The track ended in the backyard of a home where three women were sitting on the deck. As a courtesy, PSD Morgan was introduced to the homeowners. It was soon discovered that the home belonged to the widow, sister, and daughter of the officer Morgan had been named after. What began as a routine training conclusion became a deeply emotional and meaningful moment for everyone present. It marked the beginning of a truly special and successful career for Morgan.

Ned’s Wish is honoured to welcome PSD Morgan with open paws. Thank you for your service, Morgan, we wish you a happy retirement and many wonderful years ahead.
