Some names are earned. Others are destined. PSD True somehow managed to do both. ❤️🐾
There are many words that describe a great police service dog—courageous, loyal, fearless, determined. But for this remarkable Belgian Malinois, only one word was ever really needed…
True.
True to her partner, Constable Aaron Woods. True to her badge. True to the people of Moose Jaw. And absolutely true to the idea that size has absolutely nothing to do with heart.
At just 45 pounds, True spent seven years proving that the smallest dog in the fight could have the biggest impact. Criminals who thought they could disappear quickly learned that if True caught your scent, your head start was just an opportunity for her cover officers to work on their cardio. Her tracking style has been affectionately described as a “full-out sprint,” leaving more than a few officers wondering if they should arrest the suspect… or call for a relief officer to finish the chase.
Whether it was -40°C or +30°C, True never cared about the weather. She tracked car thieves, homicide suspects, robbers, domestic violence offenders, and vulnerable people who needed help. She found hidden firearms, recovered stolen property, and stood beside the Tactical Response Team without ever asking for recognition—only the next job.
And then there was the 2022 Canadian Police Canine Association National Trials, where the smallest dog—and the only female in the competition—quietly collected First Place in Obedience, Third Place in Evidence Detection, and Third Place in Criminal Apprehension. Sometimes you’ve got to let the big, dumb boys win. 😉
Off duty? Well… that’s a different story.
True is an enthusiastic paddleboard companion, provided you don’t mind the occasional surprise swim when she decides local wildlife deserves a closer inspection. She conducts regular surveillance from her backyard “watch post” atop the hot tub, where she’s convinced the neighbours are definitely up to something suspicious. And after one unfortunate attempt at making friends with a cat, she’s concluded that all cats are highly questionable characters.
Even a shattered canine tooth couldn’t slow her down—it simply earned her a titanium replacement that somehow made her look even more intimidating.
Now, after seven extraordinary years of service, it’s time for this incredible girl to trade pursuits for paddleboards, stakeouts for sunny naps, and tactical deployments for keeping the backyard safe from suspicious squirrels… and those neighbours.
Welcome to retirement, True.
Welcome to the Ned’s Wish family.
Thank you for every track, every life protected, every criminal caught, every officer who made it home safely, and every moment that proved your name wasn’t just what you were called—it was who you were.
Here’s to endless treats, well-earned naps, and a retirement that’s every bit as wonderful as the career you gave so selflessly.
Because if there was ever a dog who lived up to her name…
It was True. ❤️🐾
