Yukon joins Ned’s wish from the Via Rail Canada Police Service, where he protected the tracks from Windsor, ON to Quebec City, QC. PSD Yukon was born on April 4, 2016, at the Veterinary College in Auburn, Alabama, where they breed working line dogs for vapor wake explosion detection (Vapor wakes are known as scent trails left by people carrying explosives). The training allows working dogs to detect the wakes in high traffic areas within large crowds.
During Yukon’s first year he was placed in a minimum-security institution where he could get familiar with people and different environments. Afterwards he completed his first portion of vapor wake explosion detection with his assigned police handler. After his 7-week course he began his work in Canada with the Via Rail Police.
During his 7-year career with the Via Rail Police, PSD Yukon excelled in body worn explosion detection. In one instance Yukon was deployed to search the tracks at the Toronto Union Station platform during the Taylor Swift Eras tour, due to intel of a suspicious package left on the platform. After PSD Yukon found negative results, he gave “all clear” for the trains to re-enter the station and to allow passengers to attend their concert.
PSD Yukon will be enjoying retirement with a clean bill of health. One of Yukon’s fun quirks is he loves Birthday celebrations, anytime people sing Happy Birthday he sings along to join in on the fun!
Welcome to Ned’s Wish PSD Yukon! May you celebrate many more birthdays to come!
