It is with heavy hearts we announce that retired PSD Diego has crossed over the rainbow bridge on March 26, 2023.
Diego spent his last 6 years roaming around a farm in Drayton Valley, Alberta, discovering all of the other animals cohabitating there. Diego was born on April 12, 2011, at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre, in Innisfail, Alberta. After years of service, Diego retired from the RCMP due to a pinched nerve between his shoulder blades causing swelling in his front left leg. He joined his forever-family on a farm in September 2017. When he first arrived, he discovered that not all animals there were dog friendly. The mule and the longhorn steers made it clear that no matter how much he barked, they just didn’t like him!
When he was first introduced to the family’s grandchildren, he played with them all day, but could not keep up with them the next day. Alas, he was retired and could take it easy. Diego lived the happiest retirement any dog could imagine. While he learned to respect the longhorn steers and the mule, he befriended his beautiful horses and fell in love with his human family, leaving a gaping hole in their hearts with his departure.
Diego’s family will mourn his passing, especially his 4-year-old human sister, who claimed him as her own. She loved to put his leash on and lead him around. He would patently follow her. We will miss him.
