PSD Kruze is a German Shepherd who was born at the RCMP Police Dog Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta on July 21st, 2017. In addition to the tracking and search profiles Kruze was also trained in narcotics detection and in avalanche search and rescue. Following training, Kruze and his handler spent his 4.5 year career working in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia for 3 years, and the remainder working on southern Vancouver Island.
Kruze is enjoying early retirement and has a comfy spot on the family couch. On Kruze’s first day working in the Lower Mainland, he assisted North Shore Search & Rescue with searching for a missing hiker that was last seen the day before. The team was helicoptered in, and while searching for a track, Kruze located a pile of fresh paper receipts under a rock. A track leading away from the site was located. The missing person was subsequently found hiking out into the Indian Arm area northeast of North Vancouver.
Kruze definitely had a great first day on the job!!
Kruze assisted a Lower Mainland agency with arresting a homicide suspect who had taken a hospital worker hostage and then fled on foot. The suspect was located by members in a vehicle and used a knife to harm himself. In a very high risk and dynamic situation, Kruze was used to assist the arresting team in removing the suspect from the vehicle and taking him into custody.
Kruze worked incredibly hard over the course of his career. Kruze loved working with the Emergency Response Team, riding in helicopters and just being a police dog. He was a strong dog and like all police dogs, gave 125% every time he came out of the truck. Police dogs never work at 60% – it’s always maximum effort. With Kruze there was no difference between a Break and Enter call, a Search & Rescue call or a search for a person. Every call with Kruze was a memorable moment! He, and all his fellow police dogs, have a heart big enough for an elephant. Handlers and their dogs will do anything to protect our community, and the dogs deserve that same high quality of care when they retire.
Now that Kruze has retired early due to some ongoing medical issues, he has figured out that he loves to drink his handler’s coffee and sit in the hot tub!! Our intention here at Ned’s Wish is to ensure that Kruze gets the medical attention he needs and continues to live the “dark roast life” in that hot tub. Welcome to the pack Kruze!!
