Joker, Regimental #1072

A Canine Hero’s Bio

Joker was born at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre, August 18th, 2016. He worked as a General Duty police dog, also trained in narcotics detection, in the Lower Mainland District of BC for his entire career.

Joker’s 92lb physical presence was often employed to deescalate high stress situations. Bad guys were known to give up at the very first glance to avoid any possibility of getting up close and personal with such an intimidating presence.

Despite his size and stoic facial features, Joker was an amazingly gentle soul. He had the ability to use his size and strength when required then switch to a lovable giant when locating missing people.

Shortly before his retirement, Joker was deployed to track a missing suicidal youth in North Vancouver. The troubled youth led responders into steep and dangerous terrain. Despite very real physical dangers, Joker, with his keen nose, quickly obtained a track which resulted in him locating the young girl. He very calmly and gently led her on a precarious trek back to safety, staying firmly by her side and maintaining that peaceful demeanor. Despite the fear he instilled in bad guys, Joker could really read the room and show compassion when needed.

In April 2025 Joker earned a comfortable – and thankfully healthy – retirement. He spends his leisure days now rolling around for hours chewing and playing with his beloved Kong! We trust he has a lifetime supply of Kongs – he’s earned them!
