Soap, Regimental #1066

Soap is a German Shepherd who was born on September 2nd, 2016 at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta.  Soap was one of a litter containing five future police dogs. Soap was the first “Blue Shepherd” that ever appeared in the RCMP’s breeding program. Soap worked a short month and a half stint in Hay River, NWT before he and his handler were transferred to Saskatchewan, where he completed the rest of his 6 years of service in North Battleford and Saskatoon before retiring in September 2024.

Soap was a tracking son of a gun.  In December 2018, Onion Lake RCMP had stopped a stolen vehicle some 300 kilometers northwest of Saskatoon. RCMP members promptly arrested 3 of the vehicle’s occupants, but the driver fled the scene in extreme winter weather conditions.  Soap tracked the man 12+ kilometers through fields and bush before finally apprehending him. The suspect experienced a medical emergency upon arrest and had Soap not tracked him, the lightly-dressed suspect would undoubtedly have perished in the elements.  Paramedics estimated the suspect had been 5 to 10 minutes away from falling into a diabetic coma prior to being taken into custody.

In the summer of 2024, a young female stabbed an elderly man 5 times before fleeing on foot in North Battleford’s downtown core. Despite an hour and 45-minute time delay and a +34 degree Celsius daytime temperature, Soap located a track and pursued it several city blocks through yards and alleys to a residence where the suspect was located and taken into custody.

Soap loves to do the “Zoomies”, racing around.  It doesn’t matter whether he’s in the house or the yard.  Now that you are retired Soap, ZOOM away big fella!!  Enjoy your well deserved retirement!!
